A small amount of fat in your liver is normal. However, when more than 5% to 10% of the liver is infiltrated by fat, fatty liver disease occurs. This is typically referred to as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease to distinguish it from fatty liver caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
